What to Expect at True Roots: Your First Visit Guide
By True Roots
Before Your Visit
You've booked your appointment. Here's how to make the most of it.
What to Bring
- A valid photo ID
- A list of current medications and supplements (or just bring the bottles)
- Any recent lab results you have (not required, but helpful)
- Your goals and questions. Seriously. Write them down. It's easy to forget once you're in the room.
Fasting
If your visit includes bloodwork (most new patient visits do), fast for 10 to 12 hours before your appointment. Water and black coffee are fine. If you ate breakfast and forgot, don't cancel. We can still do the consultation and schedule the blood draw for another morning.
What to Wear
Whatever you're comfortable in. We're not a formal environment. If you're coming in for a body-related consultation, loose-fitting clothing makes the exam easier.
When You Arrive
The practice is at 1109A Foothill Blvd in La Cañada Flintridge. Street parking is available. Walk in and you'll be greeted at the front desk.
The space is intentionally designed to feel like neither a sterile clinic nor a day spa. It's clean, modern, and comfortable. You won't hear spa music. You won't smell essential oils. You will feel like you walked into a place that takes your time and health seriously.
There's a brief intake form to fill out if you haven't completed it online already. Health history, current medications, allergies, and what brought you in. Takes about 5 minutes.
Your Consultation With Dr. Valle
This is the core of your first visit. You sit down with Dr. Valle for 30 to 60 minutes. Not a PA. Not an NP. Not a rotating provider. The same physician who will oversee your ongoing care.
Dr. Valle will ask about:
- What brought you in and what your goals are
- Your health history, including anything relevant that other doctors may have noted
- Current medications, supplements, and any previous treatments you've tried
- Your lifestyle: sleep, exercise, stress, nutrition, alcohol use
- Specific symptoms, if any: fatigue, brain fog, weight changes, hair loss, mood shifts, low libido
He'll also do a relevant physical examination depending on what you're here for. Scalp assessment for hair restoration patients. Facial analysis for aesthetic consultations. General health evaluation for hormone optimization patients.
This is a real medical consultation, not a sales conversation. If Dr. Valle doesn't think you need a particular treatment, he'll say so. If your symptoms suggest something that requires a referral to another specialist, he'll make that referral.
Bloodwork
For most new patients, Dr. Valle recommends comprehensive bloodwork. This isn't the basic panel your primary care doctor runs. Our standard new-patient panel typically includes 30+ markers:
- Hormones: total testosterone, free testosterone, SHBG, estradiol, DHT
- Thyroid: TSH, free T3, free T4
- Metabolic: fasting insulin, HbA1c, lipid panel, CMP
- Blood count: CBC with differential
- Nutrients: vitamin D, B12, magnesium, ferritin
- Additional markers based on your symptoms and history
Blood is drawn in-office. Results are typically ready within 3 to 5 business days. Dr. Valle reviews them and schedules a follow-up to walk you through what the numbers mean and what they suggest for your treatment plan.
Your Treatment Plan
Once your labs are back, Dr. Valle presents a treatment plan based on your data and your goals. This isn't a menu of services for you to pick from. It's a specific recommendation: here's what your labs show, here's what I think we should address first, here's what it costs, and here's what you can expect.
The plan might include:
- Hormone optimization (TRT, thyroid support)
- Peptide therapy for a specific issue
- NAD+ or IV therapy
- Aesthetic treatments (Botox, fillers, laser)
- Hair restoration (Folix)
- Lifestyle modifications (nutrition, sleep, stress management)
- A membership tier that bundles the services you need
There is zero pressure to commit to anything on the spot. Some patients start treatment the same day. Others take the plan home, think about it, and come back when they're ready.
If You're Ready to Start Same Day
Some treatments can begin at your first visit:
- Botox can be done the same day if you know what areas you want treated
- IV therapy can be scheduled or started the same day if time allows
- Folix laser first session can sometimes be done after the consultation
- TRT and peptides typically start after lab results are reviewed (a few days after your visit)
Membership
If your treatment plan involves multiple services or ongoing care, Dr. Valle or our team will walk you through which membership tier fits your goals. Membership isn't required for any service. But for patients on TRT, regular IVs, or ongoing Botox, it's almost always more cost-effective than a la carte.
We have two tiers: FOUNDATION ($95/mo) and PERFORMANCE ($449/mo). Details and full pricing are on our membership page.
After Your Visit
You'll receive a follow-up with any relevant notes from your consultation. When lab results are ready, we'll contact you to schedule a review (in-person or by phone, your preference). Your next appointment is booked before you leave so you don't have to remember to call.
If you have questions between visits, you can call or email us directly. We respond within one business day.
Ready to Come In?
The consultation plus bloodwork is $250. You'll learn more about your body in one visit than you probably have in years. No pressure. No upsell. Just data and a plan.
